REPUBLICA:
My second album, Republica, was an ambitious project in which there was a huge challenge to learn from and incorporate stylistic or energetic elements of the work of my great heroes past and present, above all in the last sequence of compositions. Such influences included David Bowie, Fela Kuti, Talking Heads, St Vincent, Gang of Four, Gorillaz, Pulp, Alabama Shakes, my crossover idols LCD Soundsystem and a tiny twist of NIN. The aim was to incorporate more groove and explore vocal delivery more creatively, whilst also searching for a new sonority to bring an element of modernity to the table. The lyrics follow a similar journey. From the more classically structured & introspective songs processing life´s darker moments, through the fortification of the soul that comes from such experience, there is a renewed study of the external world and the topic of identity as we are overwhelmed by noise, information overload, confusion and contradiction.
